View Full Version : Performax - Drum Alignment

Anyone have any tricks about aligning the drum parallel to the table? I have the Performax 22-44 and have followed the directions in the manual but using the straight edge they recommend is awkward.

Right now the outboard edge -- from the middle of the drum to the outside -- is probably about a few thousandths higher. Which isn't tooo bd to work with and in fact for smaller pieces, I start on the outside and work toward the motor.

But I would like to try again -- for the tenth time -- to try to get it perfectly parallel.

You might try this:

Jerry,

Take a look at the modification for the drum tilt mechanism in this article (http://home.pacbell.net/jdismuk/performax.html) (4th photo from top). It allows very precise adjustment.

I did add the 5/16" lock nuts as referenced above, then I tried the joewoodworker technique but found that it didn't work all that well for me. I ended up alternately running two strips of wood through (1) near the motor edge and (2) the outboard edge, checking them w/ a digital caliper and adjusting as required. Maybe not the most precise, but it worked for me.

Jerry,

I have the same machine & tried a little different approach.

I had some old pieces of cheap (but very flat) 3/4" melamine.

I cut a few squares 22"x36"

I ran one piece thru with a very light pass-- just enough to barely scuff the melamine.

Because the melamine is so thin, is it will show you if you drum is parallel to the table.

If the drum is set correctly, you should have a nice even "scuff" across all 22" of your drum.

If not, make an adjustment & try again.

Hope this helps!
