View Full Version : Anybody ever used Persimon(sp) wood?

We have several wild Persimon trees on our property and one has recently fallen. I was going to try my hand at drying it (never dried wood before), but didn't know if it is good for anything. I don't turn (but would love to learn how), so I was thinking of using it for accent wood on small boxes or make some frames with it.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Teri

I've got a few pieces that I cut from a log a friend gave me. I haven't turned any of it either. I was thinking of making a hand plane from some of it.

Persimmon is very hard and dense. Prior to the advent of metal drivers and fairway woods, Persimmon club heads were the top of the line. I believe it's in the same family as Ebony.
