I was wondering if any one saw that new carving CAD tool from Delta on the DIY channel this weekend?

I seem to remember having seen it on here a few months ago. If I remember correctly the inventors where showing it at some of the wood working shows.

I would be curious to know if they sold it to Delta or if Delta just copied it off.

Haven't seen that but I happened to see a TV ad this morning for this gizmo. Maybe this isn't new, but it's the first time I've noticed it.

It's called the Carvewright, and has been discussed for months at length in the laserhead/CNC forum.

For the most part, it's a noisy toy. If loaded with a fine tipped cutter (isn't the point to get fine detail?), it's very slow and built with parts likely to fail with moderate to heavy use. Ever feel the heat coming off of a Dremil flex-shaft?

There is also some debate as to whether outside software can be used without pulling your hair out. I know a fellow who tried to farm a few parts out to a shop that had (had) one. Discouraging attempt at 'cheaping out'. A Shopbot was purchased to replace it.

For the home gadget freak, maybe. For someone really trying to get some work done, not so much.

Yup, thats it.

I remember it being discussed here when it was first introduced.

But you are right, its Craftsman, not Delta, my bad.
