I picked this up out of the burn pile and was about to throw it in the wood burner in the shop so I could be cozy warm for a cleaning spree.;) But you probably already know what happened next.

The shop still needs cleaned. I'll do it one of these days.

6" diameter, 6" high. Finished in a DNA/WalnutOil/shellac mix and buffed with steelwool. Thanks for peekin'.:)

That's the prettiest junk pile wood I've ever seen. Need to check out the firewood pile more closely.

"Junky Burly" sounds like an ice cream flavor...I'm sure Mr. Hoyt will approve. Nice bowl, BTW!!

Really nice job John! A lot going on in that little bowl - grain going every which way - must have been fun to cut!

Thanks gang.:)
When I first started, and it was still an ugly dirty log, my amish neighbor came by. (really nice guy, and he and his wife wanted to invite us to dinner) Anyway, he said that he had never seen anyone use a lathe before and really got into watching me getting this thing round. After a while, he had to leave but said, "I'd be really interested to see how it turns out". So I took it over to his house and gave it to them. That was fun....You should have seen the look on his face.;)

Wow John, that's even cooler than the bowl. Wish I could have been there. I have a special place in my heart for the Amish. I grew up in northeastern Ohio and there were a number of communities there. Thanks for all you do!!!:)

That's awsome, John. I bet they were quite pleased. BTW. What kind of wood was that?

...What kind of wood was that?

It's some old Black Cherry that my former neighbors let me haul out of their backyard. Most of it was destroyed by ants....but I managed to salvage a few scraps from it. This has been sittin' around for a couple years.

Yup....that looks purdy "junky" to me John. Better ship it to Conway for a closer inspection. ;)

Great rescue from the burn pile! Nice form. When we were in Gatlinburg for Christmas a few days ago, my Dad called for a pile of firewood to be delivered to our cabin. Guess who became the self-appointed keeper of the firewood?:D I came home with a few interesting looking pieces.;)
