Santa was VERY good to me this year and bought me a new Festool 55 plunge-cut saw.

The only vacuum I have is a big RIDGID 14-gal shop vac. What type of hose or attachment do I need to make this work? I can't afford the Festool vac right now.

Jason, you really should consider getting the Festool hose. The shop vac end is easy. The tool end is best served with the Festool hose.

Oh, Congrats on your new saw, assuming you really have it...no pictures... ;) :D

I tried to make a Festool work with a shop vac and in the end I bought the vac and never looked back. The ease of use and integration of the tool and the vac made it worth it to me. The adapter route with the shop vac was always awkward for me.

Call Festool and talk to them about the different adaptors they sell to allow you to connect various shopvacs to their tools.

I bought a Festool hose end, and found that it fit perfectly onto my 1" Porter Cable hose, which, in turn, fit my shop vac hose. I don't have a Festool catalog, but the hose end is in there. It's under $10.00 (which is amazingly cheap for anything with the Festool name on it...)

I also bought one of the Festool hoses to go with my Festool saw. It fits my WAP and works with ShopVacs as well. Then you can also use the Festool vacuum accessories as well.

Thanks for the great advice, Jim. Took your advice and bought an 11' Festool hose at Woodcraft today. Plugs into my cheapo vac and works just great. The rubber end of the Festool vac really grips the saw's dust port.

I even spent another $30 and got the gizmo that lets me turn my vac into a "tool activated" unit.

They may have changed the design of the Festool hose, then. My hose didn't need an adapter. The 2" end plugged right into my RIDGID vac.
