More playing with the McNaughton coring rig. The large bowl is 13 1/2" diameter by 4" deep, small one is 10" by 3". Both rims burned with my branding tool, buffed Antique oil finish.

Travis - once again you showcase beautiful work! Outstanding set of cherry bowls - love the color, grain and the black rim. The burned rim really draws out the color variations! Really nice work!

Beautiful Travis. I like the burnt edge a lot. Nice job. Do you texture the rim?

Very nice matched set! I really like these a lot.
Coring is wonderful...I was really thinking about it the past few days, as I was moving a lot of turning stock to the upstairs of my shop as part of my current clean-up and re-arrangement to get ready for a new tool. I have a number of really nice chunks of burl and other material that would be really sinful to totally turn into shavings for single turnings. Coring would be good for a reasonable percentage of it to preserve "the good stuff". I guess I need to start saving for the necessary gear...

Bernie, the branding with the coil of nichrome wire does the texturing. ;)

That's a very nice set of Cherry bowls, can't wait till I get a big boy lathe so I can think about a coring rig. Too cool Travis.

Nicely done, as always, Travis! Great set. :) I was going to try my hand at coring but, the wife wouldn't let me take her coring tool out of the kitchen. Women...I tell 'ya! :o :D

Travis,
Excellent, like everyone else said. Do you put any kind of finish over the top of the "branded" area?

Great job with some beautiful cherry. As usual, you've got a great eye for knowing when to add some texture, detail or contrast.

Thanks guys. Ernie, I sponged the Antique oil onto the branded areas.
And John, I think that's all the reason you need to get your own coring tool. ;)

Travis,
It really hurts me to see you wasting yourself on your day job.

I'm not much for burning, but the effect here is beautiful, Travis.
Made me a believer.
