Turned this last night, out of a chunk of firewood so i'm hoping that it wont move.... we shall see... anyway its maple, 5 1/4 dia 1 high and foot is 1 3/4 and the rim is 1/8 but the bottom is thinner... not quite sure how thin... but thin... so yup, what do ya think?? oh poly on the outside and mineral oil + beeswax on inside.... so, would you call it a plate or a bowl??

I call it "outstanding". This isn't the easiest form to turn due to the sharp corners and the flat bottom...you nailed it.

I'm curious why you choose to use different finishes on the outside and inside. Do tell... :)

well i thought that.... well.... um.... good question.... uhhh oh i think i wanted it foodsafe.... or maybe i thought it was to fragile for poly for which i use a somewhat firm press.... i think that was my reasoning.... :D:D:o:o:confused::confused::p:p

Thanks :D

All finishes sold today are "food safe" once fully cured.

BTW, reasoning requires thinking which is not allowed during the holidays!! :D :D :D

Ben - nice work! Reminds me of a layered cake pan.

I think Steve got it right.....not a bowl OR a plate.....It's a pan!;) No matter what you call it....It's very nicely done Ben. :)

I might go with 'dish'. I've got a piece in the dishsoap bath right now that's shaped somewhat similarly.

Nice job on it.
