Merry christmas everybody,

This is not, I repeat not a carvewright job.

All Hand work. This elk will go in the center of the bartop, flush.

on a mnt backround scene or you know, however it works out.

The first shot is Bobalouie cutting the elk off the blank

the second and third self explanatory,

This is all Bob.

that is fantastic. how did you go about doing it. did you just draw the picture on the wood and start carving away? did you use all hand tools and mallets or some type of dremel type tool. the wood looks like mahogany, is it?
great work

Lou; I used the Dremel, but only for routing, using it in this great little
Precision router base from Stewart MacDonald. This unit comes with it’s
Own little compressor to blow the dust away. Great for inlay, etc.
First I drew the elk on paper and then transferred the image to the mahogany board.
Routed the outline with the Dremel 3/8 deep, then carved with an X-ACTO knife,
Sand paper, a couple of palm carvers and files.
The hard part is creating the illusion of depth in less than 5/16 of an inch.
Study some of the coins in your pocket and you will see that it can be done in less
Look at the penny. There is old Abe sitting in his chair.

In this plaster cast of a Sculpture that I did I tried to bring the hands of the back figure in front of the other hands, here I had one inch to work with.

hi bob
that little jig for the dremel is on my list of things to get this year. I have seen in before, but it is a little pricey. your work is quite good. I am not a very good artist and that hurts when it comes to my carving. I do have to say, that the face on the elk looks a little like my dog's face ( lab / chow mix ) around the mouth and nose area.

what type of palm carvers do you use?
