Has anyone had any "good" experiences with a woodworking school/class in the Chicago area. I am very new to woodworking, and have purchased tools way beyond my skill level. I'd love to get into some week-end classes to get a "path" to folllow.

TIA --- Ken

Ken, you're only about 3 hrs away from Marc Adams' place which is just south of Indy. I can't say enough good things about the facility, faculty and staff. He offers intensive week-long classes, as well as, the weekend "Getting the Most From..." series. No affiliation other than a satisifed customer, yada, yada. http://www.marcadams.com

I'll second Bill's comments on the Marc Adams school, but you'll need a fast car to get there in three hours! The Woodcraft store in the northern suburbs does a good job for quick intro courses.

I have a couple of ideas for you...

1. find a local woodworking club and join. You'll be amazed at the advice available there.

2. I collected tools for years and never really attempted anything, but I sure had the tools to make most anything. I took a cabinet making class at woodcraft and never looked back. The class feel short in theory, but was nothing short of fantast in terms of confidence building.

90 days after taking the class, I was building custom aquarium cabinetry and having a fantastic time.

Thanks and good luck.

Hi Ken, Here is a link to a school that is in Chicago. Although I have not gone to the school I have seen the students work. From what I have seen it must be a great school. They have evening classes. It is called The Bauhaus Institute. Here is the link. http://lf.org/bhai2000/ Let us know how it is if you decide to go there.
