It seems I have a series of these going....never had one of them before ! Anyway this one measures 5" dia. x 3-1/4" tall. Rim was dimpled with my dremal tool. Airbrush dyed with Artisan dye and finished with at least 8 coats of lacquer, then buffed. I have discovered one thing, black is hard to photograph. Appreciate your critiques and comments as always. Thanks for looking.

Fabulous piece Kieth.

I know what you mean about photographing black objects. The high gloss surface "sees" everything. Every little source of stray light now becomes a point of reflection on the piece and anything the piece "sees" is reflected right to the camera lens. (I see you use a light tent) ;)

In the past I did a lot of photographs of black glass and spent hours trying different light setups to get rid of stray reflections. It's doable but not without a lot of pain and agony.

This week I've been working on a new light box/table for shooting my work and it's fun just to play around with different setups and lighting techniques, especially when you don't have specific piece that you need to shoot and no time.

That is absolutely stunning. Can I ask how the airbrush is used for dyeing the piece? I guess I always figured it was either a dip or brush type process. My curiosity aside, that is indeed a wonderful looking form.

What? That old ugly thang??? Keith, you'd better send that one right on over to Conway for a much closer inspection. Maybe I'll return it in about 100 years. :D

Like it and love it Keith. Beautiful.

Your eye for form is just awesome Keith. That tad bit of dimpling/texturing is perfect. Sheesh...the whole thing is perfect.

Excellent! The black looks great! I may steal your idea and try it out on a small "plain" Cherry HF that I have ready to finish...:D

Beautiful form Keith! Think the detail on the rim makes the piece!

Keith,
Boy you're brave! Your piece doesn't seem to have a defect on it otherwise the black would show it. Boy is that sweet!

Black usually shows every little imperfection in a piece. I know from experience...I once tried to paint a plywood frisbee using black lacquer. Boy did it look horrible after paint!!!

Thanks guys for the encouraging comments. They are appreciated.

Bob, by air brushing it is easier to attain a very even coating.

Bernie, look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again:)
