at Amazon for $339. Anyone have it? Advice?

This will be my first planer (actually I have never even touched one), but it seems like the next logical piece for the growing shop. I do not have a jointer either, but I am interested in making some boxes and need thin stock.

The 22-580 was my 2nd planer, and I've been happy with it. It's well proven and has been well reviewed over the years. It offers the advantage of having 2 speeds and $340 is a decent price for it. The cutterhead lock works well at reducing snipe. Solid performer IMHO.

The 22-580 is a good planer for the money. I've had mine for a couple of years and no regrets. $340 is an OK price but, I've seen better. If you are willing to wait a while, sometimes it will pop up in the $250 range from various sellers. I paid about that from Woodworkers Supply two years ago and I've seen as low as $200 somewhere online. Look around- this is a popular model and vendors will have good sales from time to time.

Homier has refurbed 22-580s for $250 plus $30 s/h (http://www.homier.com/detail.asp?SessionKey=L8V0E1nytCITNcqXLmN%2beBiBLE Cz6PPUHfZ86XdKHlFNvRQN6Du8setKZPUVnV%2fhC6hgXXLfg2 Dd&dpt=&cat=&sku=01804).....

It was my first planer - 1 1/2 years old and running like new. Getting ready to flip the blades so I can't comment on the ease of changing them. But would like to here about it myself...

Don't worry- it is easy. Just follow the instructions in your owners manual -this link if you don't know where yours is: http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/ServiceNet/Common/Default.asp?strURLContent=../TechnicalPublications/Default.asp
It makes a big difference to have sharp blades. In two years, I've changed the blades twice- once flipped and once replaced.
