Merry Christmas All,
I considered ordering Chinese, but I was really hungry for Italian!
When I told the wife I needed a bandsaw, she said 'get a good one'.
I hope your Christmas wish comes true...mine did!
Best wishes,
Walt

Whoa! Congratulations!!

And loading it into your shop looks very similar to when I helped Robert Tarr get his stuff into his new shop...which is also second floor!

Walt,

If you have not done so already, join the Yahoo Group for Minimax. The the "Files" section, there is a great "owner's manual".

Ho ho ho, Walt. You're gonna love that machine- extremely capable, monster resaw, rigid frame.

Congrats.

Thanks for all your kind words.
Bruce your insight is good! The shop is 28' square. The loft is supported by
a 4" by 10" I-beam down the middle, halfing the spans. Weight and floor
bounce are a constant concern as I gear up the shop.

My Sawstop paperwork listed shipping weight at 820 pounds, including
52" SS fence and extension table. It sits solidly over the steel beam,
with no bounce. The crate was substantial, and they go generous
with these listed weights, but it is still robust and heavy.

I might have bought the MM20 except for weight concerns. The 4.8hp
MM16 is currently about 535 pounds. My fresh Oneida 5hp cyclone with
leg stand over 55 gallon metal drum is over 550 pounds. My DJ-20 jointer
is around 400 pounds. Plenty of weight for the loft, plus my materials
and future tool hopes really add up.

The osc. edge sander I burn for is another few hundred pounds.
I currently only have the top of the shop, with grand designs on the
whole building. Who knows what tomorrow unfolds ?!?
be well,
Walt

ps if you ever see me posting about a 'new' main floor shop, assume things went horribly wrong for me !!

Well it's apparent you have too many HEAVY toys Walt ..
We sure dont want you to relocate to the first floor ..
So well AH remember my PM .. September ..
You know which one I choose , I'm sure the others will help lighten to load on the upper floor , lower ceiling area ..

My wife said to get a good one too, but not that good. Wow, you can do some very serious woodworking in that shop you are setting up. Congratulations. I'm looking forward to hearing how well your new saw works and seeing some finished products. And, please don't suddendly relocate to the first floor.;) :D

Walt,
I'm glad Santa didn't have to lug THAT in his sleigh, much less put it under the tree!

Congrats on a great saw & I look forward to seeing the results of using that beast.

Walt,

Congrats on the saw, I really like mine. One thing you might want to check is, see if the bottom door opens all the way without hitting the on/off switch. I bought my saw just after IWF show and the bottom door hits the switch and makes it just about impossible to get a 1 inch blade into the slot. I talked to Sam Blasco at Mini Max and he said that they are aware of the problem and that it effects about 50 saws that have been delivered. Mini Max is working on a solution. The good news is the switch is different from the original that was causing alot of problems.
