Blade speed for re-sawing

I just got my new go514x band saw last night and it has two speeds 1700 and 3500 FPM ( 3hp) My question is what is the best speed for resawing of hard wood? (Dried) the owners manual states to use the slower speed for smooth cuts, but I thought I read that higher speed is better, I am looking for a smooth finish and I am going to be using a carbide blade for it (not sure what one yet) can I get some recommendations for the correct speed before I get it all set up …..Thanks

I could be mistaken, but I believe the correct answer is the higher speed no matter what for sawing wood.

Fast for wood, regardless. Slow or fast for metal, depending, as I understand it.

I'm still unclear as what the 1700 LFPM is for. From what I know, a reasonably high speed (e.g. 3500 - 4000 LFPM) is optimal for saw/resawing wood.

IMHO, non-ferrous metals can be cut at the high speed as well.

The 1700 LFPM is too low for wood, yet too high for ferrous metals. Ferrous metals require speeds from a few hundred down to two-digit figure LFPM.
