I've got some questions on turning a candle stick.

-How big is the hole for the candle? (dinner table stick type candles)

-Given that I do not have a chuck to hold a bit while on the lathe, when do you do the hole for the candle?

-I'm planning on doing it from Padauk (stick) and Wenge (base). any tips?

I figure my steps are as follows. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'm Wrong.

find center, drill mortise hole in base.
turn tennon on stick to fit hole in base.
glue.
turn base/stick as one
sand and finish.

if you can get the little brass rings at craft store they are 7/8 dia by say 3/4 in deep and drill for 3/4 candle same . drill both ends , make spindle/s for both ends to fit the holes and turn I made one for my tail stock and the brg fits way up in side nice and snug , keeps the wobble down , other end goes in chuch if you have one , if not same thing , deep hole to fit snug .that way the stick is even with the holes. bottom hole fill with lead/steel shot for weight and felt if you like and you got it. Large base size wont need shot but the slender tapered kind will for sure.
