Can anyone shed some light on how much airflow it takes to clear a Powermatic 225 24" planer? Currently, my machine is equipped with an 8" port on the dust hood. It has a Byrd cutterhead so the shavings are small and light.
Will a 6" duct clear this particular planer?
I can go 6" 7" or 8".
Thanks,
Rob

I have a 5" port on my 22" planer, also with a Byrd head. It works very well, so I would think 6" would be plenty for your machine.

Rob, I am running a 225 also. Mine has a 6" takeoff to dust collector. Just planed some 24" wide red oak timbers yesterday and it pulled all the shavings fine. Running a regular blade head so you should be ok with 6".

We use 5" on an Oliver 24" without problem.
