Does any one have plans for a hinge morticing jig?

Ray,
There were a couple of different hinge morticing jigs in Shopnotes a few years ago, but I don't know which issues. At work, but you can check Shopnotes web site and check back issues or issues index for them.

They're real easy to build. The sketch below shows one which will take about five minutes to make The blue object is the workpiece. The brown object is the jig. It is a U-shaped piece of plywood fastened to a straight piece of lumber. The jig is clamped to the workpiece with clamps on the straight piece. The router sits in the opening in the U-shaped piece, and is edge-guided by the U. You can see the mortise cut in the blue piece. You can also see the entry and exit slots cut in the jig by the router the first time you use it. Those slots are quite useful. They show where the jig is going to make a mortise, so you use them to align the jig to the workpiece. They also show the correct bit depth, so the next time you use the jig you can easily set up the router.

As with all router-based jigs, you clean up the round corners of the mortise with a chisel.
