Here's a couple of the early practice pieces made from branch trimmings from a neighbor across the street. Both are maple - the small dish/holder (3.5" x 1.75") is finished with wipe on gel poly only while the other 'clunky' piece (4" x 3") is Minwax wipe on gloss and Beall buffed (I must not have waited long enough for drying because I lost a little bit of 'round' after final turning on that piece). The learning process continues...

Hey - I see progress! Thinner walls, more refined shapes, good finishes. Keep doing what you are doing and it will get a lot easier - and most importantly - it becomes a lot more fun! Good work!

I'm with Steve on this one! Great progress! Keep it up........you're getting there! Soon.....as he says......it'll become fun and less a challenge!

It's all true and you seem to have mastered getting them off the lathe in one piece! Branches really come in handy for practice and just trying things out.

Wow...that first one looks like some kind of chocolate covered nut filled dessert!! Maybe I'm just hungry.:o

Nice work Pat,I like the shape of the smaller one. sometimes the limbs are more fun than the rest of the tree...well ... sometimes:D
