laser engravable brass metal plates-engraves black

anyone have a good and reasonably priced source for custom cut brass or brass color plates that will engrave black when lasered? JDS (best prices) sent me brass colored alum that requires a liquid-but did not really turn black. they are sending samples of brass that will turn black when the liquid is applied-so they say. Alumamark has a great metal product but the prices for 1.5 x 3 plates are pretty high from the dealers I called.

Any suggestions?

I get a nice 'solid' black from the gold Alumamark, well worth the extra cost if you need die cut plates.. If their just rectangular plates, buy a sheet (about 15 bucks,) and cut your own..
