First Bowl

OK, here we go - my first bowl - turned back in October at a Woodcraft class (the push/pull into the abyss). I was fortunate enough to get the lathe directly in front of the BIIIIIIIG window from the store - so the first time I ever took a tool to spinning wood I had 6 faces peering in at me :eek: . Was told it is butternut, approx. 6"X2.25", finished with Mahoney's Walnut Oil and then Beall'd. What looks like a nasty ding on the inside in the 'side' shot is actually just neat figuring, also had a loose inclusion or edge that I removed before mounting it on the lathe that almost gives it a NE look.

Looks great! I like Butternut, it often looks a lot like Chestnut.

The bowl has a pleasing shape and nice finish but it's that edge
that really gives it visual interest.
