Well I got enthused after our Turning Club meeting yesterday and came home ready to turn something. This Red Mallee Burl measures 7" diameter x 4-1/2" tall. Walls are about 3/16". Finish is wipe on gel poly and Beall buffed. As always your comments/critques are welcome. Thanks for looking.

WoW Keith. A beautiful piece. Love the natural edge. I would say you were inspired after your club meeting.

Great piece!
Where did you get the wood?
What is the finish?
Who is the intended recipent? (If you can say before Christmas...)

Why were you so enthused after your meeting?

It just sucks that we can look at the turnings and not touch them!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.

Randy, your laser was an important tool on this one.

Hank, I'll try to answer your questions. The wood came from LeeTreeWoodworks.com. Great supplier of these ausie burls. Finish is wipe on poly and beall buffed. Recipient is.....myself for now anyway. Why was I enthused after our meeting? Good question. I am on the board of our club (so I typically work) and we had our first Christmas turned gift exchange and it was a big hit. Most everyone brought their wives and a covered dish of food. Seeing the faces and hearing the comments the members were making....just pumped me up !

Thanks again !

Keith,
I think David just asked the best question. What did it look like before you turned it. I was a Woodcraft the other day with a coupon that worth $15 if I spent $100. I know its a sucker bet but I only needed about $20 worth of stuff and was looking at big burly blocks with an open sided HF is mind. Just could not find one that talked to me. Instead bought a piece of Black & White Ebony to get to my $100 and earn my $15.

I did well in a poker game on Friday.

Now we are all gentlemen here, so nobody even think about telling my beuatiful and generous wife about my Poker success or how much the soon to be ebony bowl cost.

Bob

No I did not dry it. As they come from Australia I figure they have been air drying for several months and the chips that come off seem bone dry.

Thanks

Keith, I am to cheap to buy any of that, but you are an inspiration to me to break loose and buy some.
