I'm in the market for a drill press and was wondering if any and all could give some feed back on recomendations? I was looking at the Delta model 17-950L ! It seems to be a good choice:confused: Price is a factor as always, and Delta is giving a free Porter Cable quarter sheet sander with the purchase of the drill press. The price at Lowes is 369.00.

Thanks for the imput!:)

hi, last week i purchased the steel city 17 inch drill press. i looked at the delta 17-950L at lowes. it has a 1/2 horse motor, 3 7/8 quill movement, lazer, light and a nice table larger than the one on the steel city.$369.00 + tax at lowes. it is a nice drill press.i looked at sears, home depot, lowes, woodcraft, and online.the steel city is $ 469.00 - $75.00 mail in rebate so before tax and after the rebate it cost $394.00
i went with the steel city it has 3/4 horse motor, 6 inch quill travel, light and a 5 year warranty.
it is heavy.
i have used it and so far it meets all of my expectations.there is no vibration and it is quite. i like it and for the money i don't think i could have done better buying new. i hope this helps, i spent over a month trying to find one i wanted. tim mathis

I looked at BORG drill presses, but eneded up buying a Grizzly floorstand for approx. $250 last year. Worth the money.

The machine that Tim mentions seems to have some nice features for the money...especially in the quill travel department. That's a really important one for woodworking as well as low "low" speed.

I'm sure the shipping charge was ~$75 for the Steel City though.
