I have been looking at lasers for a while now, and have a question. I have noticed that some universal lasers have a water cooled laser or chiller with them. Is this better or not, I have never noticed an epilog or GCC machine with a chiller. Can someone explain this to me?

The higher powered lasers cannot be adequately air cooled , so the tube has a water jacket and chilled water wicks the heat generated away.

Mark,

These are typically older models that used the synrad or coherent laser tubes 50 watts and above. all systems that used these older tubes were water cooled epilog, uls, lmi, gcc, etc. Most if not all newer systems are air cooled. Universal has an option on there OEM tubes to be either air or water cooled.
