WARNING: DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE A DIE-HARD COLLECTOR OF PLANES IN "FOUND CONDITION"!!!! Now that I got that out of the way...have any of you ever restored the nickel plating on a hand plane? I found a site that sells kits and was wondering if anyone has used these or tried a different way. I would love to see some pics too if you've finished a plane like this. I have a #140 skew that is in rough shape and I'd love to bring it back up to par. I have no problems with the sole and other parts but the cap is nickel plated(or it WAS). I also have some other "project planes" that have nickel parts (#98,#99,#71,etc.) that I have left alone but would love to see fixed up.

Too cool!
I'm going to order one of the $30.11 plug and plate kits.
Thanks for the link.

Terry,
I have used the nickel plating from Caswell over aluminum. It takes a bit of homework, and attention to detail, but it worked well. My project was a walking stick, and I plated the tip and handle.
