This is a tie tack that my grandfather made in the 50's. Small diamond bit tools and paint, no 'puters, CNC, lasers. He worked for Bell Labs and had access to some cool stuff. He made the solar cells for Telestar and grew the materials for the first transistor!!! I have his limited edition replica - have yet to see if it works.

Anyway, the thread 'How small' got me to dig out this piece.

The fox's mouth is open and each tooth is engraved and painted, as is the snout and each hair. It's 5/16" across. A very patient man.

He made 7 different pieces, each different, and all are accounted for in the family.

To keep this on-topic... Anyone else do this kind of thing on thier laser?

That's beautiful Mitch! It's amazing what people have done manually for hundreds of years that we are just now discovering how to do by machine.

I haven't done anything like that, but I did some really small paintings for my MIL's dollhouse. Of course, I could see small items at that time. That is one cool fox!
