As you folks remember, Jim King was generous to a fault. I finally got the fortitude to turn a piece of it. I started with the small piece of Queenswood.

I have been trying to improve my work; both in content and finish. Even though I didn not post this in design. I would appreciate your feelings. This is a "Multiple center turning with a wing. It is 4-1/2" in diameter, 1-1/2" tall. Finished with 1 wipe and burnish of oil, 4 coats of French polish, finally polished with the beal system.

Thanks for lookin'

Bruce;)

Boy.....Did Jim send you the creme of his crop or what?.........Well done Bruce........I've been wanting to try some of that off-centered turning. How much did you vary off your original center to produce those sweeping cuts?

Thanks guys.If I remember correctly, Ken, the offset is equal to the Dia of the base - about 2-1/4".

Beautiful design, though I can't help remembering the old Mazda rotor when I see one of these.

Bruce...excellent piece!!! Jim sent me a piece of wood just before we started this house-moving thing. I haven't unwrapped it yet....so it oughta be in good shape once I get set up. Hope I do as well as you have!!! :)

Wow Bruce! Any chance you took additional photos during the turning? Would make for an interesting how-to lesson on off-center work.

Sorry Steve, didn't do it. I think I'm going to do a 4 corner next. Much easier to figure the points, but the same principle. Will shoot it.

Bruce, without question the wood is fabulous. I do like your design and your skills at both turning and finishing have done justice to this project.
I love seeing your stuff so keep it coming.:)

Bruce: I was wondering how you rate the woods for hardness and ease or difficulty of turning. Keep turning , looks good.

To be honest, Jim, I was surprised at how HARD the Queenswood was. I spent two to three times at the grinder as much as with anything else I've turned, even IPE.

That being said, it turned smoothly, with sharp tools. Doing the trianglar, offset design did cause some tearout, but it cleaned up well. Even the crack from shipping did not cause any problem. after completed, I used a little thin ca, in the crack and buffed it. If you look carefully, you can see it.

Would I turn it again? Most certainly. The outcome is well worth the effort.

Thanks again, for the wood, Jim.
