Hi all, I’ve been lurking around here for quite a while and finally decided to stick my feet in. I am a serious hobbyist who has been doing more and more commission work lately. I have noticed and benefited from all the knowledge floating around on this board. Hopefully I will be able to make some worth while contributions in the future. I know how much everyone here loves pics so here are a few of a project I just finished up for a customer.

The bar is built from air dried walnut that I actually got from a fellow Creeker (Steve Strickler). The top is curly maple veneer and covered with ¼” of pour epoxy. The rest of the bar I sprayed with Magnamax lacquer. The construction is pretty simple. I basically built the interior like kitchen cabinets. Once I had all of those in place and level I built a 2x6 frame around the front and anchored it to the floor to attach all the front panels to. The bulk of the construction I finished up in about a week and all the little details took a couple more days.

Nice work Dave. I'm new as well, but don't have anything like that to show. Due to circumstances beyond my control and the time factor, I've been out of woodworking for many years. Now that I'm close to retirement I have decided to get back into the hobby. Projects like yours and I'm sure the many others I will see and read about on this forum are exciting and will inspite me to get going on my own projects. Thanks for sharing.

LOOKS GOOD, DAVE!! How did you finish that walnut. Has a nice warm, reddish look to it. Did you use oil or dye prior to the lacquer? Thanks Great Job!! Welcome...

Dave. Nice work. I think that Per Swenson and yourself are going to have a lot in common. He too builds beautiful built in bars.

Once again. Welcome to Sawmill Creek and pleased to meet ya'.

I just used a self sealing lacquer for the finish (ML Campbell Magnamax). The walnut is all air dried which gives it that beautiful color. I typically try to stay away from sleamed kiln dried walnut due to the bleaching. I found a fellow Creeker who has been a pretty good source for air dried walnut and has turned into a pretty good friend to boot.
