Need to edge glue a couple pieces of 4/4 Soft Maple to make a plank about 14" wide and about 4' long. Have enough stock to do it in two 7" pieces, but curious is there is any benefit in doing it in multiple (qty 3-4) pieces, such as wood movement, warp compensation, etc.

This will be painted so pattern is of no concern, aesthetically.

Nope. That should do just fine. Just remember to not apply too much clamp pressure so you don't squeeze the glue joint dry. DAMHIKT!!!:rolleyes: :D

Yes, I've glued up such planks, even to 8/4 thick. I think the only benefit to using smaller pieces is when you have boards that are cupped (usually other than maple), and lots of little ones could alternate the cupping so it is less noticeable and more planable.
