That is one well thought out and organized shop! You must be really proud of your setup. We have simular equipment and some of the same but my workplace looks like a disaster area compared to yours. What do you think of the Ridgid sander?

The thing that I really like is "Smitty's Barn". That would make for a great incentive for me to get out there and at least start to work.

I'm having to 'reclaim' my shop from a year of house repair. I don't think I'll ever have it that organized. I am printing this out to put in my shop for inspiration. Nice shop Gary. Have a lot of fun.

That looks great Gary. I can see from your faithful shop-dog that keeping the Chukker handy on the pegboard wall is a must.

It looks to comfortable but great just great.:D

I figure if I could have just a few Sq. Ft. out of a few of these shops I could be a bit more comfortable in my shop too 28' x 36" or 32' x 32' would be just fine. Weeelll maybe 34' x 36' you know 1200 Sq. Ft. or a bit more wouldn't hurt a bit.

Hi Gary,
Great looking shop. It's time to get it dusty! How does the DC adaptor work on your SCMS? That is the biggest mess maker for me. What type of hookup are you using? JCB.

Great looking set-up Gary. How do you like your Tempest? I'm looking for as much real world information on dust collectors as I can get.

Thanks for sharing,

I like how you married the table saw extension/oufeed and cut-off table surfaces into one. Great idea. Might steal that idea.

Very nice shop and well organized. Is the blade guard on your table saw the original equipment? Did you have to add the dust collection?

Is the blade guard on your table saw the original equipment?
The guard is a Shark Guard and works great!

Nice dog. But can she catch squirrels?
Thats funny, I have a picture of mine holding a rabbit just like your photo, just don't have in on the computer.

How does the DC adaptor work on your SCMS
It is OK not great, but it helps for sure.

keeping the Chukker handy on the pegboard wall is a must.
For sure, either play with her some or never get anything done.

The thing that I really like is "Smitty's Barn"
I retired from a state job and now work as a draft tech for budweiser, I have a ton of those type of signs, If I had a decent place for finishing, I'd try to make a go of it in Wood working and live on my retirement.

Gary, this is more like an operating room than a shop.... no sawdust any where. Really cool Gary, looks like ideal place to put in time. Your dog looks proud of the place to. You put a lot of thought/planning into this shop.

I have to be the turd on the table. Beautiful shop, But.....please don't have the TV on while using anything with a blade on it! My first mental image when I saw the TV was of a finger flying while you glanced up at the game.

Though I should assume you're smarter than that.

Nice shop thanks for the pics.

Question , I was looking for a ridgid oscilating sander like that, I can't find one anywhere (online). I must not have looked in the right place cause you found one. Do you like it? It looks like it beats pumping a drill press.

What hp is that Tempest and does it work for you in that situation?

Heck, I thought everyone had a tv in the shop. Sometimes I sit at the table saw, eat and watch tv..... It's beautiful sitting in all that sawdust.:D

Good luck

Mark

Very nice shop, nice assortment of tools and well arranged.

As for too clean, well, I happen to like clean. Besides, isn't a stray bit of sawdust supposed to instantly induce lung cancer and end your woodworking career? ;)

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Nice shop! The Building inspector in me wants to point out code violations.... but I must resist. WDO

LOL

I went back and looked at the photos. The only ones I can see are the loose wires on the ceiling, and using outlet boxes instead of fixture boxes to wire the lights.

I think it may be useful to point out, if not for the OP, then for other people building their shops.

Pete (not an inspector)

Nice layout and shop. Also a cute 4 legged power tool in the door. It looks like a doggus hardwoodus hideamus.

Nice shop.

I have never, in my life, been able to achieve that kind of order. But then, I never really had my heart in it.
"Oh here is an empty place. I think I'll park my J/P here."
Then six months later I finally get sick of having to work around ir having put it in the way, and I have to re think it.

Nice shop. Your layout and size appear to be quite similar to my shop. I am positioning myself for a new Jointer and dust collection system. Seeing your layout helps me think it thru.

Your puppy is exactly like mine too !!!

Thanks folks.........It is amazing that this post started almost two years ago and it started being viewed after all this time.

My first thought before I noticed the age of the thread was trying to get my mind around the very idea of a completed shop.

So I must ask...was it really? :)

"Gary Smith"
06-06-2008, 9:55 PM
Actually for the most part it is still the same! I did put up an 24x32 pole building that I use as a garage so some of the non-wooding tools have been moved but all the big stuff is exactly as it was to start.

now with some time elapsed tell us what you think of the tempest? How many hp is she? Great looking shop

"Gary Smith"
06-08-2008, 12:18 PM
You need to remember that I'm not a avid woodworker..........There is times when I may go several weeks and not use any of the equipment and then other weeks I'll spend a lot of time in the shop! I seem to gain and loose interest in woodworking about every other month.

But I know that I'd be unhappy if the shop didn't exist. Besides it will make a nice estate sale when I kick the bucket.

All that being said, I've been very please with every piece of equipment that I have, the Tempest is a 2HP and has perform flawlessly the limited time that I've used it.

wanted to let everyone know it is now dirty, very dirty! Still orderly but for the most part still the same!
Knock on wood but not one issue with any machine in the shop five years later!

nice shop. I like the idea of a faithful shop dog, too.

Chris Tsutsui
01-21-2011, 7:44 PM
Funny how some people wouldn't think a dog makes a good addition, but then I wonder how many times dogs have thwarted attempted robberies due to their barking.

Anyways, nice shop. Mine is embarassingly messy right now and I think I need to order a trash bin and get rid of a lot of stuff because i'm feeling like one of those horders that needs professional organization...

For starters I need a logical process that determines whether or not I should save a scrap piece of wood, or toss it out. :)
