Just made it this weekend, got it from a friend's burn pile. Finished with Danish oil, not buffed yet. First time posting, hope it shows up.

You know, I just can't help but wonder what treasures are really resting in peoples' burn piles! Great job on the bowl, Thong! :) How about a quick shot once you get it all buffed out and lookin' real purdy-like? :)

Thong,
Great looking bowl, love to see it when finished. By the way, might want to get back to your friend's wood pile to see what else is hiding in there.

Great job. Very nice looking bowl - would have been a pity to see that piece of wood go up in smoke.

Beautiful bowl Thong. You better declare a moratorium on burning that wood pile while you get time to go through it.

I'm another that would like to see it all shined up.

Yup...Nice looking bowl. Declare the burn-pile off limits til a proper investigation can be conducted.:)

Very nice bowl Thong, you might tell your friend that you're going to call the wood pile police on him if he doesn't check with you first.

Thong, that bowl has perfect curves to it. Could you let us know the dimensions of it? Glad you could save it.

Thank you all.
This friend from work sold a dozen black walnut and cherry trees from his back yard to some lumber company two years ago. They came and got all the trees, but left for him all the branches and a section of crooked cherry about 12' long and 12" wide for fire wood. He burned all the small stuff, but left the cherry just sitting there uncut. I've been doing wood working for a while, but just very recently started turning wood. I think it was that log of cherry that turned me into a wood turner. By the way, the cherry log was mostly rotten, but I salvaged enough to work with.
I will post pictures again after bufffing it. Any tips to buff this bowl are welcome.

That's a beautiful bowl Thong. I really like Cherry and you were able to capture the warmth of the wood with your bowl. You better start looking around for some more Cherry. There should be another one close by and if so, if it's the only one left in that area it will die soon. If I remember right Cherry is one that has to grow in pairs. Or is that just Wild Cherry. Anyway, Great bowl.
