IMHO, perfect shape for that particular piece of wood! The transition of wood tones and on up to the bark is accentuated by the shape! :) However, I do have one question: How the heck do you manage to keep that much bark on the piece w/o it flying off all over the place? I always seem to end up with more bark on and around the lathe than I do on the piece! :o Nicely done, Mark. :)

Mark you have got it exactly perfect, don't fix it! Absolutely gorgeous , cant wait to try it on my walnut that still has the bark.

Thanks guys. John, I don't know what to tell you except that I just take very light finishing cuts around the bark. I think it has more to do with the wood than it does with any technique. This tree had been on the ground a while, but the bark is still fairly tight and in good shape.

Another beautiful piece Mark! Last one for a while? Too bad.:(

As far as the shape...I love it. Tried to capture that shape a while back and failed. You nailed it. :)

Another home run! In the second pic there is the appearance of a flare to the shape, it looks like it is flared out just as you get about midway up the wings. In the first pic it appears that there may indeed be a rather subtle flare. Is that real or an optical illusion? Either way it adds interest!

Yes, there was/is an intentional flare on the wings. I have two or three recent NEs that I've tried this on. It's not hard to do - just very hard (for me) to do and make it "just right".

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Mark I like this one as well, and believe the flare adds deminsion to it.

Yet another beautiful walnut piece. Don't ask me why - but I see a pig walking towards me in the bottom  - middle is nose and darker spots above are ears - I guess I maybe just need to get some sleep.

Seriously though, great job on the NE's you've posted lately.
