View Full Version : Newbie Question, Random Orbital sander

Thank you so much for this forum, i've learned so much! I don't have a planer, can i just take a random orbital sander to town all over a glued up cherry tabletop with 4 boards or will that leave scratces all over it? any suggestions? Thanks

Mark, if you work up through the grits (generally 80 through 180 or 220) and keep the ROS moving, you should end up with a nice surface. Consider using a scraper as the last step for a very nice finish. (use a scraper to remove any excess glue before sanding, too)

Are you trying to level the glue-up? Do you have a belt sander? That would be a better choice. I was also thinking of one of those sleds that a router rides on.
