I'll say. Anyone know anything about the PBS 440 18" bandsaw?

Hi, The Wilke Bridgewood PBS-440 and 540 are made in Italy by ACM. It is the same as the Laguna LT18 and LT 20 and also the Felder branded FB-540. At $1799 that is a great deal. The cheapest I've seen it was at $2095. It has a real 3hp motor, I believe a Baldor. The FB-540 is a real solid saw also and you should consider it since the price is only $2399. I've seen this 1ph version and the 5hp motor is big. I have the Felder branded FB-540 in 3ph. I believe both Felder and Laguna sell the 21" machines for close to $3000.
Wilke is also a good company to deal with.
take care
John

The Bridgewood and Laguna are both made by ACM but that's where the similarities end. The Bridgewood is built on a "BS" frame and the Laguna on a "Star" frame. According to Curt Wilke, Laguna specified the lighter Star frame. He also told me that in a FWW comparison the PBS series of bandsaws showed the least amount of deflection due to it's double boxed angular frame design.

At $1800 that's one heck of a deal!!
