I often see planes described as a "type 15" or something like that. I've got a few older Stanley/Bailey planes, how do i decipher this "code".

My #4 1/2 is a type 15 and my #5C is a type 9

Wow, my "type 13" #5 is at least 78 years old. It does great work for such an old man.

In the articles section over at WC there is a type flow chart also.
