I'm hoping Kelly Hannah can chime in on this. I just cleaned up my deck (pressure washer) which I believe is pressure treated pine. I was wondering what would be a good clear finish. I don't like stains as they hide the grain of wood, something that would finish clear and provide the usual benefits of a top coat.

Hello,

Flood Company's CWF -UV is my top choice for exterior non varnish clear coatings where I want to preserve both the appearance of the wood as well as protect it.

If you are looking for durability, you might want to choose a stain with pigment. We have a cedar shake home and I used Benny Moore pigmented semi-transparent stain. Seems to be holding up well.

For our deck and fence, I used Cabots solid white stain. When the deck gets dirty (as it inevitably will), I simply use a scrub brush and some soap/water and it cleans right up.

Whatever you use, just make sure that you let it dry the deck out for a number of days (week) as the pressure wash injects water into the surface.

Chuck
