Hey folks,

Ok here's the deal.

I send pics to one of my insurance companies by email. I have all the files converted to jpeg. When I send them through AOL, I click on "don't resize my pictures" in Photo Impact, but they end up zipped anyway. The insurance co. can not open a zipped file. I am resizing the pics manually so they are not big. Someone please help. I have tried everything I know but to no avail.

One pic at a time goes without automatically being zipped. Multiple files do automatically zip. Any way to get the multiple files not to zip??? It seems to be an AOL thing, but I can not figure out how to change the setting, if they can be changed at all.

Pulling out what's left of my hair,

Terry

That's one reason why I am no longer and AOL customer. If you use their email, it automatically zips files which is okay if the user on the receiving end has AOL, but others will have trouble. Either send your pictures one at a time, post them to your web site and send the link to your insurance company or switch to a different browser and send the files with a program other than AOL. You won't have this problem using a browser like Netscape.

Just one comment: Friends don't allow friends to use AOL.

Please look into going with a regular ISP in your local area. It will not have all the "stuff" that AOL does for you(like it or not), but a regular ISP will allow you to all the things your need to do. There will be a small learning curve, but you will get the hang of it in no time.

I am sure that a private Email to Keith would give you some guidelines and/or recommendations. :)

Yup, the culprit is AOL. Every multiple jpeg file gets zipped no matter what. I have a new business email address now with Cox. That solved the trouble. Live and learn.

Thanks again,

In this day and age, it's simply stupidity or unwillingness on the part of your insurance company to not be able to unzip a file. Tell them they can get an unlimited time free evaluation of winzip at www.winzip.com. Or they can spend $20 for a license.

I agree with all the aol comments.

Ed,

Totally agree with you on the zip deal. I contract with more than 60 companies. This particular one is one of the biggest insurance compaines in the country. It is totally rediculous for them not to be able to unzip a file, but they don't listen to me. Their contract does feed my kids, so I do what they ask and take it like a man.

Glad ya got the problem cured.

I would give you my opinion of AOL. However, as you are well aware we do not allow profanity on this forum -- (especially from the Moderators)

Truer words were never spoken. Except for my In-laws who are in there mid 80’s, I have never met ANYONE that was happy with AOL. Years ago I tried one of their free offers and about puked at their big brother attitude and cancelled immediately. Then they had the gall to hit my credit card anyway! It took 3 months to get it all straitened out.

Never again!

Terry, since you have your own domain, consider using it for your email, too...that way you are independent of your ISP for this very important function. If your current hosting service can't provide email hosting, too...that's easy to change, too. Talk to Keith!

Terry,

Your insurance company is most likely worried about viruses being introduced to their computer network through "Zipped" files. Zipped files are usually not scanned by antivirus software like McAffee and Norton and therefore a virus could enter the network via the attached "Zip" file. It is probably the IT people in the insurance company that introduced this policy to safeguard their computer network - or maybe it is just a setting in their hardware firewall that is not turned on. Anyway, it seems you have solved your problem.

Many companies that I deal with when sending CAD files back and forth have networks that do not allow them to receive "Zip" files.
