I just put my new Unisaw on a Delta 50-289 base. I put 6-swivel casters on it. Four under the saw and two at the far right:

I put the casters on for a couple of reasons. I like the saw a little higher than the std. base and I plan to build a cabinet under the right wing and the kicker wheel/handle would have taken up most of the space.

I need to move the saw every time I use it so I need it to be very mobile but it seems to be a little too mobile with six swivels.

Do you think it would help to put fixed casters on the far right (that's the side that goes against the wall)?

Also, is there a way to make a fixed caster out of a swivel?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm not completely aware of what you're trying to do so this may be useless. . . I would put back the original wheels and lift pedal and build a short riser to place between the saw and the base. You would have to extend your legs also of course. This would get you the height you're after without having to fool with adapted casters.

As to making locking casters out of swivels; I've not seen it done. I do use a form of wheel chock for one of my units that does not have fully locking casters (those that lock roll and swivel). It is basically a horse shoe shaped piece of spring steel rod about 1/4" in diameter. It straddles the sides of the wheel just where it curves up and away from the floor on each side of the wheel. They were originally for IBM mainframe computer cabinets from back when 'pooters were huge.
