I just finished coding and formatting 17 (yes, 17) shop tours from the Wood Central files. You might be interested to see what the <i>competition</i> is doing. There are more than a couple mouthwatering tours.

I hope you enjoy them.

Competition? We don't need no stinking competition! Just kidding! Rod, the shop tours look great! Lots of good ideas to be had just by looking around the shops! Lumber storage, outfeed table designs, shop lay-outs, work-benches, etc...... Keep up the good work.

With all the names, I didn't really know where to look for the new tours. Maybe you could add a "new" tag, date added, ponder, wc, or other notation to help wade through. Not that I want to add work, but a no thumbnails version might be nice. Since many people are moving to high speed access, having large pictures flow with the text makes reading a lot easier. Thanks for all your time and effort.

Done. I swiped the <i>two cherries</i> logo from the Island and made a small logo from the Badger Pond logo and put an appropriate bullet in front of each person's name. I've already made a SMC bullet for that first SMC tour that gets posted.

Whew! Maybe if I had the original tours (some of which are irretrievable) I might consider doing that; after all, the graphics are already there. But I don't think I want to go back and reverse the process of <i>Tourizing</i> the posts. There's a lot more to formatting those things than you may think.

Thanks for that offer of more work for me, though!

We are planning a Shop Tours area for SawMill Creek. Aaron and I have not made all pf the decosions yet but we want to key our tours area to the board and its database. If we can do this then all of the information will be searchable via the search button on the board.

We also want our Shop Tours area to be accessible for each member to be able to upgrade and edit at any time. This way as each persons workshop changes or new tools are added their online shop tour can be updated to reflect the current status.
One feature that is a must is to use the board usernames and passwords to allow only the member to be able to edit and upgrade their Shop Tour and it must be easy to build using a browser.

Good morning Rod:

I was sitting at my desk this morning and one of my salesmen came by and said briefly "nice shop" and walked on... "Hey" says I..."get back in here".

I asked what the heck he was talking about (he is not a hobbyist) and he said he was surfing the net last night, typed in my name , and up popped "Kurt's Wood Shop". I noticed it was the shop tour I posted on BP probably 6 months ago.

How the #### did that get out on the world wide web???? I never posted that thing outside of BP and was wondering what was going on. If you could please shed a little light, would appreciate.

Welcome to the web, Kurt. Search engine bots go through websites all the time. If you have something posted somewhere, eventually a reference to it will probably turn up in a search.

For example, I never submitted anything to any of the search engines about my webpage, although I have referred to it in lots of posts, but if you do a search on <b>woodbutcher</b> or <b>Norm's tools</b> I assure you there will be lots of hits to my site.

So that's the short answer. But also, you may have missed the publicity, but all the BP shop tours (and now the WoodCentral ones) were ported over to a stand alone website: <a href=http://www.shoptours.org>www.ShopTours.org</a>.

Now, whether the search engines got it from there (unlikely; the site's only been up a couple of weeks) or the Pond is irrelevant. However, if for some reason you want yours removed, I will take it off, although I think it would be a shame to lose that resource.

In any event, there aren't any identifying marks such as e-mail links on any of them, so there's no worries there.

Let me know what you want to do.

I did a search using <a href=http://www.dogpile.com>Dogpile.com</a> (which consolidates searches from many of the popular search engines, and both Google and Overture gave hits on your shop tour from the BP site.

Do you play golf? Did you play The Indy Invitational Golf Outing on Thursday, May 16th, 2002 at the Eagle Creek Golf Club?

According to hits by both the aforementioned search engines, you or someone with your name did. And since I seem to remember your name associated with Krauter Storage Systems, one of the sponsors of the tournament, I'm guessing you. It's all right <a href=http://www.ilbsa.org/indy_invitational_golf_outing.htm>here</a>.

That's what I mean about search engines and the internet. If you're on it, you're in it. I hope this helps.

Kurt,
I had the same experience as you...only a few months earlier. Way before the shop tours site was up. The search engines just picked it up from the Pond. Kinda freaked me out too!!!!

BTW...what was one of your salesman doing searching your name on the web???? hmmmmm...... I wondered the same thing about the guy who told me about mine!!!

First, thank you for all your hard work. I love to 'visit' other folks shops, as time permits. There's something new to be learned, something more to be appreciated, each time I stop by one.

Because of my remote (rural) localtion, it'll probably be 10 years before high speed access is available here. Can't afford DirectPC (or equivalent). So, I'm stuck with dial-up. Having the thumbnails allows me to see all of the shop pix. Often when a number of full size pix are included in a post, I get red X's before all of them load. That's frustrating, to say the least. I wanna see, but can't. :(

Just 2-cents from a dial-up yearning for faster access.

Regards,
Ruby

Thanks for the info Rod and Terry. I guess I may have sounded a little invaded...but...I have no doubts about the desires for the world to see my shop (:D :D :D ). It is surely a brave new world we live in.

Terry...I look forward to meeting you and the old man in April at Ray's farm. It is shaping up to be a real "woodstock" festival:D :) .

Have a great day!
Kurt
