Finally was able to get a few pictures of some birdhouse ornaments I made. Had a craft show this weekend and these sold really well there. Thanks for looking.

Very nice work! There's a guy here locally that loves to turn little birdhouses that look a lot like those. I'll have to show your pics to him! He'll love 'em.:)

Cool! I really like them. Are the birds carved by you also?

John those are beautiful. Wonderful work. I am like Dennis and that is on my to do list for next year. My DIL wants me to start a tradition of a ornament each year for each of the kids.

Gosh being new to turning and this was the very first project off my lathe which is a jet mini lathe and did not know how they would be received. From all the great comments here and at the show I did, I guess I can say I am hooked. Not knowing what to price them at I may have priced too low because they sold well. If anyone would like to offer a pricing you can PM me. I first want to thank all for the nice comments and have to say I have a longggggggggg way to go to even talk on the same level as the people here for the work I see posted here is simply amazing. This turning stuff can get very addictive. My next project is some bottle stoppers.

Hi John,

The bird houses are very nice and I can see why they sell so well for you. Where do you get the birds and how do you color the wood? The workmanship is quite good.

Regards,

Don

Don

Thanks for the kind words and to answer your questions, I get the birds from a number of different sources. I started getting them from Crafts Supplies and then I got some from my local craft stores such as AC Moore and Michaels. As far as the colors most are all natural colored woods used such as yellow heart, red heart, zebra, rosewoods and such. The blue, green and pink were dyes that I tried on some maple burl. The stands can be had just about many places if you do a google search. Just have to get right size. The ones I really wanted were out of stock wherever I tried so maybe next year I will try ordering them earlier.

John...........I'm rapidly growing tired of turning bottlestoppers and pens as dictated by SWMBO. If she sees those birdhouse ornaments......My day time job goes from 8-whenever.........My night time job will become "whenever I'm free"! Beautiful ornaments!

John,

Nice work! I enjoy turning those little suckers, too, but haven't tried dying them- neat idea. Thanks for sharing!
