Bark came off while finish turning - too bad, it looked pretty neat.

7" tall, 6-1/2" wide, buffed antique Danish oil finish.

It still looks neat, bark or no bark! I really like the form!

Mark that a beauty. I had the same thing happen to me so I burned the edge. Nice job.

To help ensure the natural edge remains on the the finished turning, the wood needs to be selected and cut in the fall after leaves fallen off, until late winter. That this time the tree is dormanite, has less live sap and wood as slightly shrunk, which tights everything up. Which aides in holding the bark on. So please keep this in mind when cutting natural edge bowl blanks.

What Bill said. Also a little thin CA where the bark meets the sapwood when getting close also works wonders. Still love it!

Mark, I really like that form! The rim is very interesting without the bark...in fact, I think I prefer it without for this kind of form.

Very classy form! Don't you have something else to show?;)

Nicely Done Mark.

Don't you just love the way black cherry smells when you are turning it?

Mark I have to say I have looked at this a couple times and realy like the shape. It reminds me of clay pottery where the rim has collapsed while sculpting Their is just something very visually pleasing about it to me.
I hope that came out right it is meant as a compliment. I find if I have to look at something several times to form an opinion their is really something to it.

Yup, I like it too.

What everyone else said and then some. Very nice shape even without the NE bark.

I like the form on it Mark. Too bad the bark didn't stay on but I still think it's a fine looking piece.

Exceptional form Mark, and it shows off the grain pattern so well.

The more I look at this piece, the more I like it. Trying to imagine it with the bark still attached doesn't do it for me.

I really like this piece, Mark. The form and curves are outstanding and I really like the opening. Like I have said before, I know absolutely nothing about art and what objects like this are suppose to look like, but I do know what I like. Definitely one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing this one, Mark.:)

Mark-

That is an outstanding piece! Love the cherry and the fact that the bark left the building is no biggie to me!

OK, I might be stretching it but I think the form has a voluptuous quality (as in female) and that is why all the guys really like it so much.:D :D :D ;)

I'll not say any more for fear of violating the TOS but it looks like the bottom of a fine art print in form. Go ahead look at it again, you'll see!

Nice job. Great form on the piece - I agree with a couple of the previous posts that the rim is fine without the bark - the shape of it is great on it's own.

Mark, I've come back to look at this vase at least a dozen times now and still can't put my finger on why I like it so much. Sure - great form, smooth curves, very nice wood grain - could pass as a piece of old southwestern pottery. It's simple but yet you keep coming back. Must be art!

With or without the bark I think it looks great Mark.
