Hi Everybody!

I turned a couple of pens last night in preparation for a show. These pens are a modification of a slimline pen kit.

The first one is yellow with black swirl acrylic acetate from Berea, and the tip end is black Steelwood from Bill Baumbeck.

The second one is red stabilized curly poplar from Bill Baumbeck, and the tip is alternative ivory from Craft Supplies.

Both are based on platinum Father Sing pens (I like the clip!).

Cool pens Scott. Very artsy!

The second one reminds me of a little feller that I found in the woods not too long ago.

Scott, your IMG embeds are no longer working. The pictures aren't showing up now. Perhaps you moved them? Todd.

I really like the variation Scott - I think I will be a thief and steal the idea and whip some out for my Christmas Show coming up in December. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Todd,

I think the IMG tag is OK, my ISP has just been funky the past couple of days. I think I will talk to them.

Ken,

Have at it! People seem to love the feel of these pens - different balance and such. I did the beads with a fluted parting tool - easy and consistent. Good Luck!

Scott.

Those look great Scott! How is it to turn acrylic? I haven't tried it yet. And how do you finish those? Micromesh?

Hi Matt!

Turning any plastic is a different animal. Some is brittle and wants to shatter. This Acrylic Acetate from Berea seems about right to me. Not too hard, not too soft. After you get the corners knocked off, it comes off in long (annoying) strings!

I just sand all the way up through Micro Mesh, then I use HUT Ultra Gloss, which is a plastic polish. The final step is Renniasance wax after you've assembled the pen, to protect from finger prints!

Have fun!

Scott.
