I need to buy a vertical straight raised panel bit for dresser (http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/woodstore_1925_5115428) drawers. The instructions call for a Jesada 690-602 bit (http://allita.net/Projects/omnicat5/index.php?cat_id=0). Would you say that this Freud 99-315 bit (http://routerbitworld.com/product_p/freud%2099-315.htm) is its equivalent?

Can't seem to get the Jesada link to work but I'd bet that either one would be fine. I have a Rockler vertical bit and I've made a ton of raised panels with it. I would imagine that just about any of the "name" manufacturers bit would do the job for you. Be sure to made a tall zero clearance fence for best results. I have a mdf fence that I attach to my regular fence just for the raised panel bit. Works great.

You're right, the link stopped working. I can't seem to link to it directly. Click on this link (http://allita.net/Projects/omnicat5/index.php?cat_id=0) and type 690-602 in the search field. Rockler's bit (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=5020) costs about the same, but how is the quality.

Alex,

Seems fine to me. I have Rockler's stile and rail bits as well and I have made many, many doors and raised panels without any problem at all. I still say most any of the better brand bits are fine. Basically choose the color that you like best. :)

I wonder if the infinity tools 90-602 is the same as the Jesada bit? Based on what I've read about dealings with Jesada, be glad the link doesn't work:( Infinity tools is owned by the son of the Jesada founder and I've not seen or heard of any problems with them. That is not true of Jesada.

I've not used vertical panel raisers though others post of success, and they're the only option for lower HP or non-variable speed routers. The only thing they won't do that I know of is raise non-square panels, like tombstone door panels.

I decided to go with MLCS' vertical panel raising straight bit. Have a couple of questions... What speed should the router be set to and how many passes should I make if I have to take off about 1/4"?
