Methods of setting depth of cut?

I am currently looking around for potential gifts for folks to get me for Christmas, and I saw set-up blocks in the Lee Valley catalog that came today:

They seem like they'd be useful for setting the depth on my table saw blade and router bits, but I've never used them before. Has anyone here?

And, what method do you use most frequently to establish depth of cut?

I have a set of brass blocks like that, and I find them very useful for setting both my table saw depth of cut and my router bits.

One of the most used cheap things I have ever purchased. (Unlike some other cheap [and some expensive] items that just sit in a drawer.

I have at least a half a dozen gauges for measuring height of blade or router bit. The most reliable is to set a six inch square to the desired height, and raise the blade or bit to that level. When the bubble is level the blade or bit is at the desired height. Quick, easy, inexpensive, reliable

If they are going to be gifts, why not make some of these? You could use a more exotic wood and the modified HF caliper is inexpensive. Route the shape of the caliper into the wood to recess.

I use this stop along with the linked cabinetmakers rules. The stop and rules have been one of the handiest additions to my arsenal, making it easy to transfer measurements.
I can see there might be an issue ascertaining if the rule is square to the table but rotating a blade or bit until the high point hits the stop resolves it.

The stop fits all the rules in the set ($20) except the short 6"

I use a similar set that I bought from a guy off eBay several years back. I think he stopped making them though, I haven't seen them listed the last couple times I checked.

I find them VERY useful and they are a pleasure to use.

I would highly recommend those you've listed.
