Has anybody located an 8mm collet for the Dewalt 618 router? I've done quite a bit of searching and have not located any reference to one. I'd like to use an 8mm bit on the Leigh D4R instead of 8mm bits with a sleeve in the 1/2" collet.

I'm new to the Leigh game but Hart Tools sells a Whiteside 8mm router bits for the Leigh jig that comes with the 8mm adapter for the 1/2" collect. If you have the bits already, you might be able to buy the adapter by itself.

I'm trying to avoid using an adapter. I've had several bad experiences.

I'm trying to avoid using an adapter. I've had several bad experiences.

I checked out the Dewalt and Porter Cable website and found the 1/4", 3/8" and the 1/2". If the manufacturers have one, it's not on their website. You might give Dewalt a call (or email) and find out if they have on for sale. Good luck. Please post back if you do find one. Other people might want one as well.

I have been meaning to look for the same. I just did a quick search and saw that the same collet is used for 616, 618 and 621. On the Dewalt European website, in the parts list they show 326286-00 as the part number for an 8 mm collet for the European version of the 621. Are the collets the interchangeable for the US and European versions??? I am guessing so, since the main part of the part number is the same (the 326286 portion).

This is where I found it http://service.toolcommerce.com/Products/ProductParts.aspx?ProductID=4318

Trend in the UK lists an 8mm collet for the 621, but their US operation does not seem to carry it.

Anyone every have a machinist ream out a 1/4 collet??

I have an Elu router and couldn't get the collet in the US. Tried unscuccessfully to order from a web company from the UK, and then found it on Ebay. After months of searching, I learned that my Elu 3338 router was the same as a current Dewalt and that Dewalt had the part in stock. I'd call Dewalt parts...joe

Seems to me that you should get it from Europe. There is a German Internet shop that has specialized on routers and equipment for routers. You may drop them an e-mail and ask. Their web address is http://www.sauter-gmbh.net/.

Collet reducers are readily available from many woodworking stores, including Leigh Industries, makers of the Leigh dovetail jig for USD $6.00/CDN $7.00

It appears as though you prefer a new 8mm collet. While these are simply collet reducers, not new collets, they work very well if kept clean. In addition, they fit all 1/2" routers - and the price is right. The Leigh ones are especially nice as they have a shoulder to help ensure the reducer is properly seated. This simple feature is missing from many reducers.

Otherwise, good luck in your search - especially in North America.
