DC question

I have been lurking for quite some time now, and finally have a question.

I have a 1 hp dust collector, and am going to upgrade the bags to 1 micron this weekend. My question is weather the trashcan separator lid thingy is worth the money. Most of my work is turning, and I would like to use a floor sweep to clean up some of the big shavings from turning, and the grate at the input of the DC clogs with them. Will the separator work in this instance?

Jamie,
The Separator will work for your application. The only thing I have found is to get a good seal where the hoses connect to the lid. Also if you will put some foam tape between the lid and the trash can you will get an air tight system.
