I was just playing with a cut-off and this came out. 3 1/2" Wide X 3 1/4" Tall; Spalted Pecan; sanded to 600 grit and Deft and Wax finish.:)

I like that one--
Isn't it funny that us turners spend as much time on little pieces as the big ones--LOL
sanding and finishing --
I loive how we can make use out of all kinds of wood most woodworkers just throw away---

Hey, WOW! Beautiful piece, and who would have thunk that a nice piece like that could come from something that makes such a great pie!

Seriously, that is beautiful.

Yea, what did you hollow it with ?

I had a cheap HF Chisel Set so I used one of them to create my own hollowing tool

Very nice HF Chris, that Pecan just shouts to me. You have given me another idea also I also have some of the same chisels I may have to modify them as well, I seem to have misplaced one of my scrapers what a neat way to replace it.

Chris that is a beauty. Isn't it amazing what comes out of scrap. Love the wood.

beautiful stuff , thanks for sharingMatthew, this Pecan has started the Spalting process that may be why it looks different than yours. also I know there are different varieties of Pecan so that could be part of it as well. Here is an earlier platter I did that is a bit more plain.

thanks Christopher i figured the spalting had much to do with it. and yea i was also thinking there must be a few varieties or something

maybe i should brush my logs down with some yogurt :-P
i've heard there are some recipes for starting/ accelerating the spalting process,?
