O.k., as I continue to deplete my bank account for the "necessary" turning supplies, I'm putting together my sharpening set up. Need 1 (or 2?) 8" wheel(s). I see Norton white alum. oxide wheels for $30 [Rockler] or the Norton white 32A's for $65 - that "will likely last a lifetime," which, in my case, is not saying much. :D Can I get by with one good wheel for touching up the grinds? . . . a 100 or 150 grit?

Mike I have a 60 grit and 120 grit. You can probably get by but I wouldn't. The 60 shapes and the 120 sharpens. Works for me.

And I just started using a 32A, as I also had the standard white wheels, the ones that came on my slow speed grinder from Woodcraft. The 32A is so much smoother and easier to grind on than the other white wheels that I have. The one I got was a 100 grit, but it seems a lot smoother than the 120 grit white wheel. My $.02, but I'd spend the extra, I think it will pay off in the long run. I leave the left side of my grinder set up for scrapers, and I am ordering another 100 grit 32A wheel for that side as well............. If you decide on the lower end wheels, PM me, I'll make you a deal on the ones I no longer use.

I use 80 grit and 100 grit Norton 3X wheels with the OneWay balancing system. I'm very, very pleased with this combination.
