Finally! I am at the stage where I can show you what I have been working on the last several months. These are made from Allegheny Cherry and Walnut I got from West Virginia last year. Each case weighs almost 120 pounds and stands 5 1/2' tall. Still sanding & more finishing to do but books will be in em next week! Thanks for looking.

Very nice looking pieces. Very sturdy looking. I hope those side panels won't be hidden, they are beautiful.

Are American Black Walnut Hans. Often saw mills will "steam" walnut to give it a uniform color. A process that eliminates the natural color variations in the wood. Walnut can have blues, purples, chocolates and cream colors. I have seen all these colors in one board. The rails, styles and shelves are Black Cherry. Given time they naturally turn a deep red so I don't stain Cherry as you often see in furniture stores. I just let the wood stay in a sun filled room to "age" before I use the furniture I make from it.
Thank you for your comments,
Ron

hi Ron, Very nicely done. Good combination with the cherry and walnut. Glad you mentioned the steaming of the walnut. Unsteamed walnut can yield some beautiful color and grain. I grabbed some from the scrap pile over at Hearne Hardwoods. It was purple and I wasn't sure what it was until Rick Hearne explained the unsteamed vs steaming process for walnut.
Are those solid panels.
take care,
John

Wow...finishing in your living room. You must have the most understanding family ever!;) j/k

Those are really nice. I like that you left the would natural. It is shame that so many consider the natural variation of wood a "defect".

Very handsome. Wood like that deserves to be on display. I hope those side panels will be visible from somewhere you like to sit, relax and smile.
