Hello All-

Was wondering if you might be able to help me out here... Our kitchen stove (not that old) has decided not to heat up like normal. So, I stuck in a digital thermometer and set the stove to 350. It only got up to 110 in an hour. I then opened the stove and sprinkled water on the top element and it evaporated instantly. However, the bottom element was not hot as the water stayed on that element.

So, it looks like one of the elements is bad. Can I assume it's not a thermostat, etc?

Should I swap out the top element with the bottom element to see if it's the element or the element plug-ins?

What would you recommend for "problem solving" the issue?

Thanks.

Brad

Check the resistance on both elements, they should be the same or close.
(If you have an ohmmeter) If there's no continuity on the bottom one, just replace it. If they measure the same or close then it's going to be something else. We have gas now but when we had electric for many years I replaced a lot of elements, never had a thermostat go out.
