i've been trying to identify a tree on my property for a while now. i found it last hunting season when i noticed the knottiest tree i'd ever seen. upon further examination ....... with a hatchet..hehe..... these are numerous large burls!
i cant find any info on the characteristic's of the lumber in any of the wood books i have.
has anyone ever used hawthorn for turning or flat stock? i figure if i cant use it i'll let it live grow and grow and grow.

thanx everyone
brad

I didn't know that hawthorns would get big enough for usable lumber.

I just goes to show you - you learn something new every day! Todd.

you know todd....... uppon further reflection. i'm not convinced it's a hawthorn. i'm thinking it might be a white poplar. but the problem i have is that i've never seen a poplar burled like this and the leaves are a little different thatn what i've seen.

thanx for the reply todd.... i'll let you know something when i get the thing cut down and sawn!!! woo hoo
