This site is great! I've been lurking for years on many of the other sites, including the pond. Just thought I'd share my latest project. My wife gave me a Woodsmith hardware kit for the toolchest for Christmas this year. It turned out pretty good I guess.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFULL ! !

It is one of the things I have aways wanted to make myself. Maybe someday.

Think you should put it on a pedestal in the living room rather than in the shop!

Looks great hblair, can you post some closeups? Nice enough to be used as a giant jewelry box (not that my family could fill it).

Very Very Nice! But like the others have noted, I would be afraid of scratching it.

Looks fantastic........Awesome Job! I agree with the others, I would have that baby sittin' on my dresser! It would hold a lot of watches, and you have a drawer for each denomination of coins too! Just kidding............what a great place for your finer tools. :D

That's just for show, right? It's way too nice for everyday use.:)

Here's another picture.
I built it to use. I keep my chisels, measuring instruments, and drill bits, etc in it. It is surprising how much space there is in it. I built it in three weekends. The wood is rift cut white oak. (It's the first time I've used rift cut WO.) The hardest part was mortising in the lock. It took some planning and time.
The draw slides are adjustable up and down just a bit to fit the drawers properly.
The finish is a couple of coats of Watco medium walnut.
I have some other projects.. you can go to my website and there's a link to some of my other stuff.

Herb,

Beautiful job!

There are two kinds of woodworkers, those who have already built a wooden toolchest and those who "Will Someday". I'm with Ken on this one..someday I'm gonna build one for myself.

Nice work,
